Brenda Pogge is the Republican nominee for the 96th District House seat being vacated by retiring Delegate Melanie Rapp. While she has never held public office, she does have a record. She has worked hard promoting conservative values and candidates since 1993. Among Republicans, she is probably best known for recruiting Jo Ann Davis to run for this same seat in 1997. She spent countless hours helping to ensure that Jo Ann won that race and the Republicans gained parity with the Democrats in the House that year for the first time since Reconstruction. She was also instrumental in encouraging Jo Ann Davis to run in the congressional race to replace retiring Congressman Herb Bateman.
Last year during the campaign to pass the Marriage Amendment, she went daily to Richmond with her husband Roger as they co-managed the statewide va4marriage.org campaign. They spent many hours working into the nights and weekends to ensure that the definition of “traditional marriage” would be protected by the Virginia Constitution. That measure was supported by a large majority of Virginia voters.
You may remember her as a leader of the kNOw Campaign, the Hampton Roads opposition to the 2002 sales tax increase which included an unelected Regional Authority. Her efforts went far to protect the citizens of Hampton Roads from bearing a 22% sales tax increase every time they passed a cash register. She is the only candidate who not only publicly opposed that referendum, but did something about it! She put herself out front to lead the charge against it. Against overwhelming odds, it was defeated by over 60% in Hampton Roads, and in the 96th District by over 70%!
She is well known around the state as having been out front in the fight for pro-family causes. She believes that the government penchant for tax increases is rarely a part of the solution and usually a part of the problem. She actively opposes unelected “Regional Taxing Authorities” which she believes deny the citizens their constitutional right to representative government.
As a concerned citizen, she is aware of the need to send a true social and fiscal conservative to the General Assembly to ensure that Virginia continues to endorse common sense conservative legislation. Melanie Rapp, and Jo Ann Davis before her have been champions for the values that we hold dear. This seat has been a reliable vote for conservatives since Jo Ann’s election in 1997. She believes it is crucial that this District continue to be represented by a pro-family conservative who has been a leader in the conservative movement in Virginia.
She has the public endorsement of retiring Delegate Melanie Rapp, but she needs your endorsement to win. She is the true conservative candidate in this race. She is the candidate who will be a voice to protect the taxpaying citizen’s pocket as a representative of the 96th House District.
Brenda asks for your support for her campaign for, “The future legislation that comes out of Richmond will be a direct reflection of those we elect to represent us.”
